Lincoln make it to First Round Proper - Report: Khalsa v Imps

Updated: Oct 30, 2019

Lincoln City Women made it through to the First Round Proper of the FA Cup away at Sporting Khalsa today.

After a lacklustre, goal-less first half, the Imps improved in the second half to win 3-1.

Both teams struggled to string together passes in the early stages of the game. Lincoln created a few chances but failed to capitalise on them. Khalsa's defence didn't struggle to block the crosses coming in from the Imps.

The hosts went on to dominate possession, but failed to create any chances and perform in front of goal.

Going into the second half, the score was 0-0.

The teams came out with more vigour in the second half.

Murrell broke the stalemate in the 56th minute, taking on two players and bringing the keeper out of her goal.

Khalsa levelled in the 68th.

For the final 15 minutes, Lincoln put the hosts under more pressure, pushing together and closing down play.

Murrell gave the Imps the lead again in the 83rd minute, getting herself one on one with the keeper and chipping the ball over her head.

She made an impact again in the 88th, making a run down the right, and crossing to Atkinson in the goal-mouth.

Khalsa failed to match the Imps' quality and bowed out of the competition. The final scoreline was 3-1 to Lincoln.

Manager, Richard Cooper said:

First and foremost we had to get a result. We didn't play as well as we could have again but we've created lots of chances still. Fair play to Khalsa, they've dominated possession without really creating much and I think that's a credit to how well we played without the ball.

The team return to Sporting Khalsa next weekend for a league fixture.
