Preview: West Bromwich Albion FA Cup

Lincoln City travel to Coles Lane in the West Midlands this Sunday, 4th April to take on West Bromwich Albion in the Vitality FA Cup Second Round.

Matches for the third round were originally scheduled to be played on Sunday January 3rd but were rearranged to this weekend due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The winner of this fixture will have a home tie in the third round and will play either Loughborough Foxes or Derby County on Sunday, April 11th.

Recent Form

Neither side have played since the 20th of December 2020 but both picked up good wins.

The Imps thrashed Burton Albion 10-0 at home in the WNL Midlands One, while The Baggies won 2-1 away at Nottingham Forest.

In round one of the FA Cup the weekend before, Lincoln beat Solihull Moors 3-1 through goals from Amy Blinkhorn and Toni McHamilton (x2).

Head to Head

Lincoln City and West Brom have met three times since the re-brand from Nettleham Ladies, with the Baggies coming away victorious on all occasions.

The teams last played each other in December 2019, also in the second round of the FA Cup, and goals from Hattie James and Keeley Davies secured a 2-0 win for WBA.

Who to Watch

Leigh Dugmore is the Baggies' designated penalty taker as well as scoring five goals from open play in nine appearances in the 2020-21 season. The winger joined from Championship side, Leicester City in January 2020. She managed six goals in her nine appearances before the 2019-20 season was voided.

Louis Sowe’s West Brom have been in good form but tend to leak goals, having conceded four in the last three, something Lincoln will be looking to capitalise on.

The Imps' Toni McHamilton might fancy her chances as the one to do so, having scored a five minute hattrick in her last appearance.

The game will be behind closed doors, with a 1pm KO on April 4th.
