Lincoln City took three points with a 2-1 victory over Bedworth United today at Ashby Avenue.
The Imps made two changes from last week’s line up against Stoke City. Amy Kay and Erin Wilson started in place of Daisy Marsh and Olivia Leslie.
The first half of the game was end to end. Both teams created chances but Lincoln dominated with possession. The ball spent a lot of time in Lincoln’s attacking third but they failed to perform in front of the goal.
Both teams showed more quality in the second half. In the 48th minute, Emily Atkinson crossed to Abbie Murrell in the goal-mouth and Murrell gave Lincoln the lead with a close-range shot.
It took just two minutes for the visitors to even the score with a powerful goal from a distance.
In the 70th minute, the Imps were awarded a penalty for a tackle on Murrell. She stepped up to take it but failed to find the back of the net.
Eight minutes later, Murrell gave Lincoln the lead once again, getting one on one with the Bedworth goalkeeper following a defensive mistake. The hosts kept possession in the final ten minutes and claimed the 2-1 victory.
Manager, Richard Cooper, said:
“It’s been quite an interesting game; we’ve come away winning the game 2-1 whereas last season that’s the type of game we’d have lost 2-1 and I think that’s the difference this season.”
Next up, the team travel to Leicester on Thursday 5th.
